Dubai Sports World set for more indoor games to mark fifth anniversary

Dubai Sports World 2015, the Middle East’s largest indoor sporting venue, will celebrate its landmark fifth outing with an action-packed 10-week schedule of sports, tournaments, academies and activities from June 21 to August 29 at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

Designed for both serious athletes and sporting novices of all ages, the multi-purpose Dubai Sports World 2015 – organised in partnership with Dubai Sports Council - will cover more than 22,000 square metres of air-conditioned, indoor space.

The venue will feature four pro-standard pitches for five-a-side football, four pro-standard pitches for seven-a-side football and rugby, four basketball courts, two tennis courts, six badminton courts, a mini cricket pitch nets and a regulation-sized volleyball court.

An expansive skate-boarding and BMX park designed by extreme sports and recreation retailers, RAGE, will boast ramps, rails, pipes and verts, while a state-of-the-art gym by TechnoGym will feature world-class weights and fitness equipment.

For the first-time, the gym area will include a dedicated fitness studio for group classes and a cycling studio.

In addition, a free-to-enter Entertainment Zone will feature 12 table tennis tables and a virtual Gaming Zone, while a special ‘activation area’ has been earmarked for one-off events and consumer-facing sponsor activations.

With a record 175,081 sports fans passing through the venue’s doors last year - a 43.5 per cent increase on 2013 footfall - Dubai Sports World organisers have gauged guest feedback and remodelled the popular running track into an uninterrupted, Olympic-length 400-metre loop.

In-line with Dubai Sports World’s mandate to provide a safe, affordable and indoor facility for grassroots sports programmes for children of all ages, this year’s venue will roll-out its largest and most diverse roster of summer camps products to date.

Run by leading institutions from across the UAE and around the world, this year’s line-up includes football and basketball by IFA Academy, tennis by Tennis 360, skateboarding and BMX biking by RAGE, cricket by G-Force Cricket and many, many more.

Ahmed Alkhaja, Senior Vice President – Venues, DWTC, said: “Energy levels are building early for this year’s Dubai Sports World. When we began our journey five years ago, our vision was to provide a safe, state-of-the-art venue for UAE residents. Although the hot summer months often discourage the community from staying active and healthy, the popularity and evolution of Dubai Sports World proves there is huge demand for world-class facilities in the heart of the city. The key to our success lies in our commitment to offer a diverse range of sports for both seasoned athletes and those just wanting to play sports with friends and family.”

Saeed Mohamed Harib, General Secretary, Dubai Sports Council, added: “In-line with Dubai Sports Council’s vision to promote a healthy community, we work tirelessly to encourage all members of society from different nationalities to exercise regularly to improve their overall health, happiness and productivity. For five consecutive years, our partnership with Dubai World Trade Centre and Dubai Sports World has helped us achieve our goals by providing a fantastic platform for people of all ages to practice all kinds of sports and physical activities during summer.”
