Android and iPhone users in the UAE who have installed BBM Messenger app on their smartphones can join the list of those being deprived of the free BBM voice and BBM channels that BlackBerry has rolled out in the region.
The service, earlier available exclusively for BlackBerry users, was introduced for the iPhone and Android users as well on Sunday.
While users in the rest of the GCC will be able to access the new features, the service remains blocked for all BBM users in the UAE.
Both etisalat and du pulled the plug on BBM Channels in December last year.

The new update allows Android and iPhone customers to make free voice calls to BBM contacts over wi-fi or data connection with BBM Voice, as well as access BBM Channels.
BBM Channels enables any user to create their own Channel on any given subject or brand and allows other users to interact and share ideas and opinions.
The new update provides support to location sharing, Dropbox and emoticons.
BlackBerry, meanwhile, continues to maintain that it is working with officials to put its services back online.
