Coming, at last: Blackberry 10 on January 30

The all new Blackberry 10 smartphones will be finally released on January 30, putting an end to an unending and at times agonizing wait by fans who continue to swear by BBM.

The new operating system features the revamped ‘flow’ user interface apart from additional features such as ‘hub’ and ‘peek’ that RIM hopes will take its new operating system into a different league and much more equipped to compete with iOS, Android and Windows based smart phones.

“In building BlackBerry 10, we set out to create a truly unique mobile computing experience that constantly adapts to your needs. Our team has been working tirelessly to bring our customers innovative features combined with a best in class browser, a rich application ecosystem, and cutting-edge multimedia capabilities,” said Thorsten Heins, President and CEO of Research In Motion.

The BlackBerry Flow according to him is unlike any smartphone on the market today.

"Thanks to our strong partnerships with global carriers and a growing ecosystem of developers, we believe our customers will have the best experience possible with BlackBerry 10. We are looking forward to getting BlackBerry 10 in the hands of our customers around the world," he said.

The event will happen simultaneously in multiple countries around the world.

Reports quoting a recent IDC study released Nov. 1 said Android was the operating system of choice on 136 million smartphones shipped around the world in the third quarter, which was 75 percent of the 181.1 million smartphones that shipped. That number is five times the 14.9 percent market share of Apple's iOS for the same period.

RIM's BlackBerry shipped only 7.7 million smartphones in the quarter. All this might just change post January 2013.
