Combined active users on Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp has exceeded one billion.
More than a billion active users on chat platforms, all of them owned by one company. We are talking about Facebook here.
The combined active users on Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, which the company owns, has exceeded one billion.
Facebook, which rolled out a separate messenger app and delinked it from the main Facebook platform, says it has now achieved 500 million active monthly users.
Last month it was also revealed that WhatsApp had crossed 600 million active users.
In a blog post posted on Monday, Peter Martinazzi, Director of Product Management, wrote, “Today more than 500 million people are using Messenger each month and we’re more committed than ever to make it the best possible messaging experience.”
The Messenger was launched by Facebook in 2011, well before it acquired WhatsApp for $19 billion in February 2013. WhatsApp was founded by Jan Koum in 2009. According to available statistics, WhatsApp has been gaining almost 25 million active users every month.
It is not just the Facebook messenger and WhatsApp that have been growing this fast. WeChat, which is owned by a Chinese firm, had in August announced that its active monthly user base has grown to 438 million.
BlackBerry, which was once the leader with its BBM messenger, has been working hard to increase its share of users. Currently it has about 100 million active monthly users.
