Samsung has launched its most powerful device yet in the form of the new Galaxy Note 7. The 5.7-inch device with edges on both sides comes packed with the latest features such as the iris scanner, fingerprint security, better camera and more battery power.

The Galaxy Note 7 was introduced by the president of the mobile division DJ Koh, who briefly explained the features of the new device and the S Pen, which Samsung has greatly improvised to match the power of the Note 7. "We have been working on the S Pen for seven years," said Koh.

Justin Denison, Senior Vice President of Product Strategy, then came onto the stage branding the Galaxy Note 7 as the "most intelligent smartphone that we have ever created."

The new Note 7 comes with a curved 5.7-inch QHD Super Amoled screen, 64GB of internal memory, expandable storage and MicroSD support up to 256GB. It’s also equipped with a 3,500mAh battery, easy Power Management UX through Smart Manager, and charges quickly using the new USB-C Port.

The device can stream HDR videos and with a CPU that is about 30 per cent more powerful compared to Note 5 and a GPU that has 50 per cent more power.

Design

The new Samsung device comes with a redesigned dual edged screen. The 5.7-inch Super Amoled display comes with a subtle front bezel, allowing a distraction free viewing experience.

The Galaxy Note 7 has four colour options: Black Onyx, Silver Titanium, Gold Platinum and the new Blue Coral.

The S Pen

The features of the S Pen have been greatly enhanced to make it more than just a writing tool.

"We have reduced the diameter of the S Pen tip by more than 50 per cent. It’s now just 0.7mm. We created an S Pen that is more intelligent than ever before," said Denison.

According to Samsung, users can start writing without unlocking the screen by using Screen Off memo and simply pinning the memo to the Always On Display. The S Pen also enables the creation of GIF animations with Smart Select, and new Air Command functions, including Magnify and Translate, enabling users to zoom in on the screen or convert languages by simply hovering.

The new S Pen writes with ease and precision. The smaller 0.7mm tip and improved pressure sensitivity provides a real pen-like experience.

Security enhanced

Iris scanner, according to Samsung, has been developed with highly advanced biometric authentication that works alongside fingerprint security.

Do not forget Samsung Knox.

There is a new Secure Folder which can be controlled with the iris scanner. The iris recognition technology will also be used to authenticate secure purchases people make with Samsung Pay. The Galaxy Note7 will also support Samsung Pass, bringing authentication such as iris scanning and fingerprint recognition to more apps and services.

Camera

In terms of camera, Samsung has introduced the same camera that it put into the Galaxy S7.

The back camera comes has 12MP rear-facing camera with a F/1.7 aperture, Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and the Dual Pixel autofocus system. The front camera comes with 5MP sensor.
