High-end smartphone updates over-the-air

Dubai-headquartered Vsun Mobility on Sunday launched a new ‘high-quality yet affordable’ smartphone at Gitex Shopper.

The 'Race Red DNA Limited Edition' smartphone was unveiled by Mahesh Chotrani, Assistant Vice-President, Jacky’s Electronics, and Swithin D'Silva, Regional Director Vsun.

Jacky’s Chotrani said Vsun was the fastest growing brand among smartphones and predicted that it would dominate this segment within the next three or four quarters.

Vsun describes itself as a global manufacturer of affordable, high quality next-generation smartphones, and D'Silva said the firm’s latest DNA range of smartphones come with over-the-air upgradable features.

“We have very robust expectations from the DNA range,” said D'Silva, adding that the company undertook market research to determine what customers were looking for.

“As a brand, Vsun has so far offered quality smartphones in the Dh199-Dh499 range. This is our first offering at Dh699,” said D'Silva.

The Race Red DNA Limited Edition smartphones sport handcrafted leather and laser cut finishes.

The device comes with a 5-inch IPS HD Screen, Octa Core Processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB built-in memory upgradeable to 32GB, 3G Dual Sim, Dual Camera 13MP / 5MP Selfie Camera, and operates on Android Kit Kat. 

“Our month- long campaign ‘Vsun Awesome’ is a testament to the investments we are making for the channel and our commitment to our loyal customers whose ranks are swelling across the Middle East, Africa, Russia and the CIS region,” he added.

“The feedback we received is that people find the design very unique, and they love the leather touch-and-feel,” he told Emirates 24|7 on the sidelines of the launch.

The new device is available at 500 outlets across the UAE, including at retailers like Jacky’s, TechLink and Hyperpanda stores.

D'Silva said the firm is targeting the mid to high-end segment and the new range includes the OTA updates feature (over-the-air feature).

“Vsun's latest smartphones incorporate pioneering technology which automatically updates their software with our latest software on a regular basis,” added Haitham Kalakeche, CEO of Vsun.

Vsun has launched multiple models of smartphones specifically targeting the Middle East, Africa and CIS markets and has an expansion strategy in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Russia and Turkey.
