Abu Dhabi GDP grows 4.8% to Dh953bn in 2013

Abu Dhabi GDP grew 4.8 per cent to Dh953.2 billion last year compared to Dh909.7bn in the previous year, according to figures released by Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi (SCAD) in its Statistical Yearbook on Tuesday.

Commodity imports through ports of Abu Dhabi were valued at Dh100.3 billion in 2013 compared with Dh119 billion in 2012. The largest imports category during 2013 was machinery, sound recorders, reproducers and parts, which accounted for 23.2% of the total value. The US was the top import partner at Dh12.7bn.

Non-oil exports amounted to Dh16 billion with base metals contributing 49.7% of the total.

Saudi Arabia was the top destination of Abu Dhabi’s non-oil exports as goods worth Dh6.7bn were exported from the emirate in 2013.

Re-exports in 2013 were valued at Dh16.4bn compared with Dh14.7bn in 2012. The top category during 2013 was machinery, sound recorder, reproducers and parts, which contributed 48.8% of the re-exports total.

The Kingdom of Bahrain was the top destination for re-exports at Dh3.4 billion.

Merchandise imports from Asian countries through the ports of Abu Dhabi declined to Dh43.9bn during 2013, down from Dh54.4bn in 2012. Non-oil exports to Asian countries amounted Dh14.5bn while re-exports totalled Dh14.1bn.

The emirate of Abu Dhabi exported one billion barrels of crude oil in 2013. Japan was the top importer receiving around 36.5 per cent of emirate’s total crude exports.

In 2013, Abu Dhabi exported 10 million metric tonnes of refined petroleum products, of which Netherlands bought 24.7per cent, followed by Japan which purchased 15.8 per cent.

According to Al Qubaisi, there were 35,963 births in Abu Dhabi in 2013, of which 18,298 were males and 17,665 were females. The number of deaths during the same year was 3,015 including 2,113 males and 901 females.

The 2013 birth rates for citizens, non-citizens and the population as a whole were 31.4, 10.4 and 14.7 births per 1,000 population, respectively. The 2013 death rates for citizens, non-citizens and the population as a whole were 1.9, 1.1 and 1.2 deaths per 1,000 population respectively.

The 2013 infant mortality rates for citizens, non-citizens and the population as a whole were 6.6, 6.1 and 6.3 infant (deaths (less than one year old) per 1,000 live births) respectively.

The corresponding figures among children aged less than five years (child mortality rates) in 2012 were 9.3, 7.4 and 8.2 deaths per 1,000 live population, respectively.
