Gulfmart, a supermarket and hypermarket brand in the GCC, has opened its first store in the UAE as part of the growth strategy of its Dubai-based owner Retail Global.

The company plans to open several more stores across the region this year.

The Gulfmart hypermarket, which occupies an area of 6,000 square metres, opened in Sharjah on the main Al Arouba Street in the presence of a large number of customers and executives from Retail Global including Mohammed Ashfaq, Group Business Head, Yvan Baba, Country Head and Yasir Arfat, Operation Manager-Supermarket.

Gulfmart has been an extremely strong and popular brand of supermarkets and hypermarkets and is known for offering the customers a large assortment at “low prices”.

Currently operating nearly 20 stores in Kuwait and Bahrain, Gulfmart has been the shopping destination of choice for customers of all nationalities, and in particular, people of Asian ethnicity.  The store in Sharjah marks the first of many such planned units, within UAE.

Mohammed Ashfaq, Group Business Head, Retail Global, said: “We are happy to launch this new hypermarket concept in the UAE in Sharjah, which is home to people from different cultures and backgrounds. As a very important brand within our portfolio, Gulfmart enables us to reach a wider customer base through targeted promotions specifically for our core customers.

“We spend a lot of time understanding our customer needs and based on their feedback, we respond accordingly with specific products on shelves and promotions. We are confident that the Gulfmart concept will be a huge success within the UAE”.
