Dubai-based Emirates National Oil Company (Enoc) plans to build crude oil tanks in Fujairah, its Chief Executive Officer Saeed Khoory said on Thursday.

Speaking to Emirates 24l7, Khoory said: “The focus is on the crude storage and we’re studying putting half a million tonnes of storage tanks here in Fujairah.”

The study is at the initial stage and hopefully the work on the project could begin next year, he added.

Captain Mousa Murad, General Manager of Fujairah Port, said the emirate is also negotiating building crude storage facilities near the port with other storage operators.

Murad said Fujairah Port is also building loading points which will be completed in the middle of 2016 and will serve large crude tankers.

Khoory was speaking after inaugurating the five oil tanker berth pipelines built by Vopak Horizon Fujairah Limited connecting its terminals to the Port of Fujairah.

The pipelines project has been completed in 11 months, Khoory said, refusing to disclose further details.

The pipelines directly link the Vopak Horizon Fujairah terminal with the jetties of the Port of Fujairah through five pipelines, two each dedicated to carrying clean petroleum products and fuel oil, and one for nitrogen.

Each pipeline is about 3 kilometres with the two pipelines for petroleum products of 24” and the two pipelines for clean fuel at 30” in dimension.
