Dubai Media City service station, currently under renovation, will be the first among Emirates National Oil Company’s (Enoc) service stations planned to use solar power when it opens in June 2016, Emirates 24|7 can reveal.

“The Dubai Media City service station will be the first of the planned projects underway to showcase this sustainable technology. The new 120Kw photo voltage (PV) system will utilise solar energy to power the daytime electrical requirements at the station, thereby making it much more efficient and environmentally friendly for the overall community,” the company  said in an emailed statement sent to this website.

The PV solar panels will be installed onto the main canopy of the service station to generate power along with the Dewa grid system.

“All renovated service stations will ensure safety, easier entry and reduced queuing at pumps. In addition to more dispensers, these stations will also have fully-fledged automotive services and retail stores, including Zoom and Autopro,” the company added.

The government owned diversified energy group has earlier revealed plans to increase its retail capacity by 40 per cent between 2016 and 2020, which includes construction of 54 new stations, besides renovation of two service stations in Dubai Internet City and Oud Metha.

“Our service station expansion programme is part of our growth strategy and we hope to alleviate some of the issues for our valued customers as we innovate to implement new technologies to promote sustainability, enhance customer experience and ensure the highest standards of health and safety,” Burhan Al Hashemi, Managing Director, Enoc Retail, said.

Currently, Enoc has seven stations under construction in Al Barsha South first and fourth, Al Ruwaiyah, Warsan third, Al Sofouh, Discovery Gardens, and Oud Metha.

New locations planned for this year and next year include eight stations across Jumeirah Village, Dubai Investment Park 1st, Al Marmum, Nad Al Sheba, Dubai Industrial City 3rd, Al Lusaily, Dubai Al Ain road and Hatta.

As of now, Enoc Retail operates a network of over 112 service stations in Dubai and the Northern Emirates with over 85 million people visiting Enoc/Eppco service stations in 2015.
