Microsoft's new streaming device vs. Google or Apple

After Apple TV and Google’s Chromecast, it could now be Microsoft’s turn to come out with a streaming device of its own.

According to recent reports, the company might be just planning that. Tech blog Windows Phone Daily has reported based on a recent FCC filing that Microsoft could be working on a Chromecast like device for Windows users.

The FCC filing clearly indicates that Microsoft will use the Miracast technology to beam the content. The device would be Wifi enabled apart from including a HDMI and USB port as well.

Miracast currently only allows mirroring the screen and dot not allow a user to power up apps without the support of the smartphone.

Microsoft had earlier introduced the `Project My Screen` app onto the Windows 8.1 update on the mobile phone, while one can even mirror the laptop screen into some of the latest smart TVs.

The FCC filing clearly indicates that Microsoft will use the Miracast technology to beam the content. The device would be Wifi enabled apart from including a HDMI and USB port as well.

On the other hand both Apple TV and Chromecast can run apps without the support of the smartphone or any other device, and thereby could end up being a much more advanced compared to Microsoft`s solution.

Microsoft has been working hard to develop the Windows mobile platform as a credible competitor to both Apple and Android.

A few weeks ago it rolled out the latest update through Windows 8,1 and has even pushed the next level of update to developers.

There are also reports that Microsoft could release a serious new upgrade to the existing OS through Windows 9 for mobile. The new update it is said could introduce some significant changes to the OS apart from enabling multi window support.

A similar OS upgrade to laptops and desktops called `Threshold,`might see the end of the Metro UI and once again bring in the Start menu to Windows. The update is expected to be released before the end of September.
