A man who attempted to sell a maid for Dh3,000 received five years in jail for human trafficking and prostitution racket.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance also ordered MT, 28, Bangladeshi to pay Dh100,000 fine and to be deported after serving his jail term.

The court also referred the convict to the Misdemeanour Court for charges of consensual physical relationship and illegal stay in the country.

According to the records, on February 22, police received a tip-off about MT who was planning to sell two Indonesian women for Dh4,000 each.

A police informer bargained the price and agreed with MT on buying one woman for Dh3,000.

MT convinced the woman that he will be transporting her to another workplace and she can come back if she did not like the place.

MT did not tell her that he was selling her to a man.

The woman, WB, went with him, and after he received the money from the 'buyer', he was arrested.

The woman told the police that she knew MT via Facebook for two months.

One day she told him that she wants to ran away from her employer's house in Al Barsha. The accused helped her to escape and kept her in a flat in Naif after claiming to find her a job.

MT took her to a flat operated as a massage centre. The manager of the massage salon asked her to offer herself to customers for pleasure.

The woman also used to stay in that flat and had physical relationship with MT.

MT and the man who was running the massage brothel used to distribute money from the prostitution business they ran.
