The Criminal Investigation Department of  Dubai Police have seized counterfeit goods worth Dh400,000 of ten global brands just before the goods were to be exported and also distributed in the local market.

Police arrested two Gulf nationals who were owners of the shipment, Arabic daily Al Bayan newspaper reported.

Maj. Gen. Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Deputy Commander General of the Criminal Investigation Department at Dubai Police, said police acted after it received information about counterfeit shipments at Warsan Port intended to be shipped to another country and the rest to be sold in the local market.

Nearly 40,000 products of global brands were confiscated in the raid.

Al Mansouri said it was discovered in the raid that the goods entered the UAE through fake documents. The accused confessed to the crime.

“These goods will harm the country’s economy as well as owners of the original brands. The seized goods had brand names like Nike, Burberry, Adidas, Louis Vuitton and others. The raid was carried out  in cooperation with the Department of the Economic Development in Dubai in order to protect the rights of the owners of the original brands and to prevent the negative effects of fake goods on the economy and the society as a whole,” he added.

Major Salah Bu Asieba, Director of the Anti-Economic Crimes Department of the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation at Dubai Police, said 10 large vehicles were used to transfer the goods after the raid.

The authorities are waiting for  Dubai Courts to proceed with the prosecution and destruction of counterfeit goods.
