A security guard of a building in Umm Hurair allegedly conducted a robbery at the building’s flats while their residents were away on vacation, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
ZHA, 27, Bangladeshi, confessed to stealing jewellery from a flat with the help of a fugitive in addition to four other flats in the same building he works in.
ZHA was arrested at the Dubai International Airport while attempting to leave the country.
The victim PDB, 33, Indian, housewife, testified that she left the country with her family on vacation on July 15.
“I returned to the country after ten days on July 26; my husband and I were planning to go out for dinner; I checked the safe in my wardrobe and found that some of my jewellery and six bullion valued at Dh500,000 were missing. Later I found that the security guard of the building had entered the flat from the kitchen’s window. Police who arrested the accused and asked me to identify some of jewellery confiscated from him. However the bullion worth Dh92,000 could be recovered from his custody,” she testified.
Corporal Hussain Murad testified that investigating team found that the building’s security guard possess gold jewellery and would leave UAE on December 6.
“The accused was arrested at Terminal 1 and confessed to stealing valuables with the help of a compatriot. He also admitted that he had robbed, with the help of the fugitive, four other flats in the same building where he works. The two divided the stolen items between them,” said the officer.
The court adjourned the case for verdict till February 13.
