Dubai Police are looking for the manager of a local garment and footwear company after receiving complaints from many dealers that cheques he had paid them for sold supplies bounced.

The traders said they have been dealing with the well-known company for a long time and that it has branches in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, adding that they filed a report to the police they failed to cash the cheques.

“We have received a report about the man who is authorized to sign those cheques and we are trying to get him….we believe he is still inside the UAE…once he is caught, we will present him to the public prosecutor,” said a police official, quoted by the Arabic language daily Albayan.

The paper did not identify the firm but quoted an advertisement company owner, identified as Etiol Diwan, as saying he had dealt with that firm by advertising for its products in newspapers and other places but that it started to default in paying dealers and issuing dud cheques after August.

He said he had contacted the company manager and was told to give him three days to settle his dues. “We waited for three days but there was no word from him….we then reported him to the police.”
