Sharjah traffic police seized 62 vehicles in fresh raids that targeted an area known by young local motorists as 'the street of beasts' in a bid to stem reckless driving and reduce death on the emirate’s roads.

The raids, which were launched last week, focused on Maliha Road, which leads to Nazwa and Al Madam areas, where police said a large group of young drivers often gather for stunt driving, which is banned in the country.

Police said the raids are intended to restore order to all streets to ensure 'roads without deaths' in the emirate, warning that those caught in the act would be severely punished.

“The latest raid resulted in the seizure of 62 vehicles in what is known by some groups of young drivers as the 'street of beasts'.

“We will deal severely with those caught violating the rules,” Sharjah Traffic Police Chief Lt. Colonel Ahmed bin Darwish said.
