A woman and her husband reported group sexual assault by drunken men, the Dubai Criminal Court head.

The woman and her husband recognized only two of the attackers who were arrested by the police following the couple's complaint.

On February 24, 22-year old Sri Lankan cleaner, DH, accompanied her husband to a party and when they returned back home, they entered the building and waited for the elevator.

"As the lift reached the ground floor, a group of men who seemed to be drunk and smelled foul got into the lift with us.

"In the lift, the men who were five or six groped me at different areas... my husband tried to push them away... as the lift's door opened, they tried to push my husband outside so they can continue assaulting me," she said.

The husband succeeded in pulling his wife out of the lift although one of the men tried to close the lift's door, said the woman's husband NJ, 25, cleaner.

Police arrested a group of Asian residents.

However, the couple recognized only two of the assaulters when shown to them via identification parade.

They both were truck drivers.

KD, 33, admitted to groping the woman's lower back once. While, JS, 28, denied the accusation and claimed that while he was in the lift with people he does not know, he moved towards the woman who was shouting and screaming to help protect her from other men.

The court will give its sentence on August 11.
