Thieves held after ripping out ATM machine

Four Arab men got drunk and used a car and a rope in ripping out a bank cash machine in Saudi Arabia before they were overpowered and arrested by the police.

Police said the four, all in their 30s, put up what they described as fierce resistance when they tried to arrest them just after extracting the massive machine out of the wall of a bank in the capital Riyadh and trying to steal its contents.

A court which found the four guilty of robbery, drinking alcohol and resisting police sentenced them to four years in jail and ordered each of them lashed 700 times.
