Two teachers killed, 41 students hurt in school fire

A massive blaze at a Saudi girls school on Saturday killed two female teachers and injured 41 little students after many of them jumped from the second floor.

Saudi air force and civil defence joined hands in the rescue operation which involved helicopters and several fire engines and rescue vehicles.

Saudi newspapers said the fire erupted during class hours at the school in the western Red Sea port of Jeddah but did not mention the cause of the blaze.

“Police reports said 41 school girls suffered medium to serious injuries…many of them were injured after throwing themselves from the second floor,” the Arabic language daily Alsaudi said, adding that the death toll could rise.
