I end up buying new festive decorations each year, as I don't know how to store them to keep them in good condition. Have you got any tips?

The golden rule to preserve your decorations is to keep the original packaging. Failing that, there are lots of specially designed storage boxes and bags you can buy through internet suppliers to help you avoid the annual untangle of lights and resuscitation of flat, lifeless garlands and wreaths.

For homemade solutions, try using empty gift-wrap tubes to wind strings of lights: Make a slit at both ends of the tube and thread the lights through, wrapping them along the tube and securing them at the other end. For small baubles, use egg boxes, while larger ones can be inserted into paper cups and packed into a box.

How can I make a festive wreath?

Hannah Martin, from floristry experts McQueens, says: "Your door wreath is the first decoration that guests see when they come to your house, so it should create a wow factor.

"To make one, you need to cover a wet 14-inch oasis wreath frame with lush seasonal foliage, such as delicately scented eucalyptus and ivy leaves. Using florist wires and a hot glue gun, you can then attach festive decorations. Start with flowers and berries and finish off with a large bow in a luxurious ribbon and sparkly decorations, such as coloured baubles and stars. "To keep the wreath looking its best, spray it with water every now and then and do not place it in direct sunlight. You may need to replace the flowers but the foliage and berries should keep looking fresh throughout season."
