DHL's $2.7m hub in Jordan opens

DHL Express, the world's largest express and logistics company, said its $2.7 million (Dh9.9m) hub in Jordan is fully operational.

The facility combines an airside operation with the hub and transit point. The hub services all of DHL's road activity from the GCC through to the Levant, North Africa, and Europe.

Visible on landing at Amman Airport, the DHL hub is spread across 4,000 square metres, with dedicated staff operating the facility. The hub already handles 740,000 kilos every month, and has the capacity to double this within 18 months.

Operating 24-hours a day, the hub is improving speed of delivery of inbound shipments into the country, plus provides added security and safety of all goods transiting through Jordan to other destinations. "With the economies of the Middle East continuing to grow, this region remains a key focus for DHL. With the completion of the Jordan hub we are adding strength to our regional infrastructure. This will benefit customers in the GCC, Levant and Europe who are sending shipments by road as well as those customers importing and exporting to and from Jordan," said Paul Bicknell, DHL Middle East Facilities Engineer.

The airside facility has pioneered new operational processes not seen in Jordan before. The security system with 47 CCTV cameras, X-ray equipment and an access control system, ensures a secure and safe environment. In addition, shipments arrive at the DHL Hub within 20 minutes of the aircraft's arrival, thereby providing DHL with a distinct advantage.

The customs unit situated inside the sprawling facility provides DHL with round-the-clock customs clearance, with dedicated staff clearing material.

"The Jordan Hub has been designed to improve efficiency, loading and service times, thereby providing our customers with a fast, reliable service second to none," said Mazen Saba, DHL Jordan's Operations Manager.
