DHL Express, which claims to be India's number one international air express company, and DHL group member Blue Dart, which claims to be the country's leading domestic air express operator, along with Blue Dart Aviation, has inaugurated "a first of its kind" integrated terminal at Bangalore's new Bengaluru International Airport (Bial).
DHL, a Deutsche Post World Net brand, said that development would help synergise the domestic and international express operations of both businesses in south India. "With an investment of $25 million (Dh91.7bn), this 220,757 square feet facility is expected to provide faster clearance and seamless handling of inbound and outbound international and domestic shipments," it stated.
"This combined facility, that handles both domestic and international express operations at Bial, is expected to bring substantial synergies in operations such as reducing throughput handling time, streamlining processes and optimising the utilisation of space and common resources."
DHL said the facility augmented the dedicated aviation network with its own maintenance, ground handling and airside-cum-cityside operations capabilities. It was also scaled to accommodate future growth over the next 10 years.
At the inauguration, Dan McHugh, CEO, DHL Express – Asia Pacific, said: "With increasing trade opportunities in India and continued growth in intra-Asia trade, our facility at the Bengaluru Airport will offer greater customer convenience by providing end-to-end solutions for domestic and international express services."
