Saif Al Suwaidi new chairman

The Arab Civil Aviation Commission (Acac) has reelected the UAE as a member of its Executive Council, appointing Saif Mohammad Al Suwaidi as chairman of the new session, until May 2012.

Headquartered in Morocco, Acac has also nominated the UAE on the Arab list to the International Civil Aviation Organisation Council elections to be held next September.

Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), said: "The selection of the UAE to chair the Executive Council of Acac reflects an appreciation of the active role played by the GCAA in promoting this vital sector in Arab countries. As chairman of the council, we will build upon previous achievements and work towards the realisation of the objectives of Acac, especially under the current circumstances of the industry, to develop general planning of civil aviation among Arab countries and enhance co-operation between member states."
