Expansion work has begun on the capital city's Eastern Ring Road, the Abu Dhabi Municipality and the police announced yesterday.
The work is expected to disrupt traffic from Al Saada Bridge up to Street Number 29, which connects the Eastern Ring Road with Muroor Street in the PepsiCo zone.
Three lanes in both directions will be open to traffic to avoid inconvenience to motorists plying the route, said the authorities.
The roadworks, expected to be complete in May 2010, is part of the development of Al Salam Street and the Eastern Ring Road.
Abu Dhabi Municipality said it has made all necessary preparations, such as placing road signs and barriers to ensure the safety of motorists and keep traffic flowing smoothly.
The municipality is collaborating with various government agencies to solve traffic problems and ensure the comfort of Abu Dhabi motorists, pedestrians and residents until the road infrastructure developments are completed in a phased manner.
The Al Salam Street projects are in line with Abu Dhabi Plan 2030, the long-term vision for the economic and social development of the capital.
The initiative seeks to establish Abu Dhabi as a truly modern metropolis on par with the best in the world.
The municipality, the Urban Planning Council, the Department of Transport and the General Command of Abu Dhabi Police are co-operating on the project.
