A Dh107 million project to provide a drainage and stormwater network at Al Warqa 1 has been launched by Dubai Municipality.

The scheme is expected to be completed by the end of next year, said Hussain Nasser Lootah, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality. "The project forms part of the municipality's plans to link new residential areas to the city's main drainage network and reduce the percentage of sewage water transported by heavy tankers to just five per cent by 2011," he added.

"It will incorporate advanced design concepts and technology and is one of a series of similar projects being undertaken this year by the municipality's Drainage and Sewage Department.

"The total area to be covered is 250 hectares and more than 430 buildings will be connected to the network. The contract has been awarded to a private firm of high reputation in the field of infrastructure development and the work will be carried out under the supervision of a prominent consultant." Al Warqa 1 is bordered by Al Awir Road on the South, Nad Al Hamr on the West, Al Warqa 2 on the East and Al Warqa 3 on the North.

The department has urged Al Warqa 1 residents to send any remarks or suggestions about the scheme via the municipality homepage, www.dm.gov.ae or by calling toll free on 04 800 900.
