Gas prices went up by Dh10 for the 44kg cylinder and Dh5 for the 22kg size yesterday following an announcement by the Ras Al Khaimah Economic Development Department.

Ahmad Ali Al Baloushi, Director of Control and Consumer Protection, said the department had approved the increases after meeting distributors.

The 11kg cylinder now costs Dh45, 22kg Dh90 and 44kg Dh180. The new prices will remain in force until January 8.

He said the increase was a result of the rising price of gas in the global market. "As a free market we feel a direct impact," he said.

"The retailers were told they should provide scales in each delivery vehicle to allow customers to weigh the cylinder they are buying. In addition a price list should be displayed clearly on the vehicles. This will ensure there is no cheating and that cylinders are completely full."
