Headquarters of International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena) will be completed by the end of 2011.

Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, CEO of Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), told Emirates Business Masdar will finish building Masdar Institute of Science and Technology in 2010.

"Our institute is the first of its kind in the Middle East. It aims to create students specialised in energy and attract efficient people, especially Arabs, from the advanced world." he said on the sidelines of a conference entitled "Energy Security in the Gulf: Challenges and Prospects".

Masdar conducted a two-year study on the reasons behind the immigration of educated Arab nationals and ways to bring them back.

"We, at Masdar, succeeded in attracting educated Arabs and will continue to attract Arab and non-Arab brains to develop the Abu Dhabi economy." He said.

Dr Al Jaber said Abu Dhabi will host big international events from January 16 and January 23. On January 16, Abu Dhabi will host the meeting of Irena's administrative committee.

On January 17, Irena's first general assembly will be held, with delegates coming from 150 countries.

Between January 18 and January 21, World Future Energy Summit will be organised in Abu Dhabi.

On January 19, Zayed Future Energy Prize will be distributed. On January 22 and 23, Abu Dhabi will host the meetings of Climate Change Advisory Group.
