Roads and bridges leading to the Meydan racecourse at Nad Al Sheba are due to be opened today by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The Dh1 billion project comprises bridges extending for 2,025m including two 710m bridges, each consisting of two lanes in each direction for motorists entering and leaving Meydan, and another private VIP bridge providing direct access to the Meydan grandstand. The opening of the bridges has been timed to coincide with the completion of construction works at Meydan on the eve of the 15th Dubai World Cup on March 27.

"The Meydan Roads and Bridges Project is one of the key projects undertaken by the RTA," said Mattar Al Tayer, the authority's Chairman and Executive Director. "Its importance is underlined by the massive nature of the Meydan project which spans an area of 67 million sq ft and contains the world's largest racecourse, in addition to a five-star hotel, state-of-the-art stables, the Meydan Gallery, canals, restaurants and an IMAX cinema for 585 people and parking space for 10,000 vehicles."

Al Tayer praised the full and continuing cooperation between the RTA and Meydan City Corporation.

The new Meydan Road has four lanes in each direction. "These projects are part of the RTA's strategy to keep pace with the current and future needs created by the urban development in the emirate, the development drive and demographic growth and expansion," added Al Tayer.
