Pierre Moukarzel, Founder and President of the Pan Arab Web Awards Academy has said the award which currently covers 10, Arab countries, will be extended to North Africa.
The winners of the UAE Web Awards 2008 were honoured during a red carpet ceremony held recently at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel. Companies maintaining the best websites in the region were recognised in 35 categories including finance, government, health services, media and international organisations.
Abdullah Al Harbi, CEO, Eye of Dubai, said: "On behalf of our organisation we would like to reaffirm our full support for this pioneering competition, which recognises creative web designing talent in the Arab World while promoting awareness of intellectual property issues.
"We believe that the UAE Web Awards will continue to help raise web designing standards," said Al Harbi.
The Award of Excellence went to Paravision, with the https://www.alqudrare.ae site designed by the company also winning the International Standards Web Technology Award. The https:// www.iacad.gov.ae won as the prestigious Best Arab Website in UAE, while Zed Communications won the special Microsoft Award for the best website built on Microsoft Technology for https:// www.cbq.com.qa.
Other awardees were Star Portal as the Web Company of the Year; 2 PURE for https://yacht-liner.com which was presented the Diamond Award for the Best Website in the UAE; Saudi-based www.salmanaward.com won the Best Strategic Governmental Website; and https://www.dcdconference.com dominated the Governmental Organisations category.
