United Airlines and JetBlue Airways twitter to gain customer base

United Airlines and JetBlue Airways have introduced Twitter-exclusive promotions, "twares" and "cheeps", respectively.

The gimmick is helping the airlines fill flights that might otherwise fly with empty seats.

Twitter followers or those who sign up to receive the airlines' updates via the site are entitled to receive those reward deals.

JetBlue's Twitter account, "JetBlueCheeps", posts fresh deals every Monday.

"It is for customers who have flexibility or want a last-minute getaway," said Bryan Baldwin, JetBlue spokesman.

United Airlines offered "twares" through its main Twitter account, "UnitedAirlines". The deals can come at any time and usually expire within one or two hours.

"We try to surprise our customers once or twice a week by offering them special, Twitter-only fares," said Robin Urbanski, United Airlines spokesperson.

United Airlines offered these deals for domestic flights within the US and international destinations.
