Sports Cities International, a subsidiary of Sharjah-based Bukhatir Group, is considering introducing the "sports city" concept in six countries, with India, Sri Lanka and Vietnam being the possible locations.
"India is one of the countries that we are looking at, but we haven't located a specific site. We will decide a location after we have completed our due diligence," Luciano Paolo Crosetta, CEO-International, Sports Cities International, told Emirates Business after announcing the launch of $5-billion Tunis Sports City project. The project is expected to be completed by 2025
Karan Rekhi, Head of Strategic Business Development, Sports Cities International, said: "We have been called by several state governments and have been exploring locations since there is going to be only one sports city in the country."
Although the company has not shelved its Pakistan project, it has deferred plans for Lahore Sports City, a project to be built over 3,000 acres of land.
"We are not writing it off; we have deferred our plans. It is always better for us to play safe and decide a right time to go in," Rekhi added.
