Nakheel begins Lake District construction

Nakheel, the real estate arm of Dubai World, has commenced construction work on Lake District, a 26-acre residential community, with sales starting next week.

"Construction has already commenced and will continue in five phases. The estimated completion date is the fourth quarter of 2010," a Nakheel spokesperson told Emirates Business.

The project, which is one of the districts of International City, will house 34 buildings with Al Warsan Lake. The other districts are Dragon Mart Complex, Central District and Forbidden City near Emirates Road.

Shadid Engineering Consultants are the architects for the project, which will comprise one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and some penthouses.

"All buildings will have underground parking and a dedicated internal road system to allow quick and easy access to each building. Each building will have access to a range of amenities, including gym facilities, swimming pools and recreational areas."

Nakheel had earlier announced the launch of the first phase of Veneto, a residential district in Waterfront. It will comprise 1,400 villas and townhouses, and 1,200 low-rise apartments to accommodate 14,000 people. "Groundwork has begin on the first phase, with the handover for villas expected in 2009," the spokesperson said. The company is expected to begin sales for Canal District soon and plans to launch the Badrah phase by end of this month.

In March, Nakheel had revealed the masterplan for Waterfront City, which will be the centrepiece of the development. Covering a land area of more than 330 hectares, Waterfront City consists of a central island surrounded by four neighbouring districts – the Boulevard, Madinat Al Soor, the Resort and the Marina.
