A total of 13 teams have registered in "Let your dream mobile application out" mobile application development competition, being jointly organised by du and Microsoft Gulf for the second year for college and university students.
The winning team will be announced from six shortlisted teams who will present their projects at the final ceremony, scheduled to be held on April 14.
The competition is a platform for young and talented scientific minds in colleges and universities, designed to unleash creativity and innovation by developing intelligent mobile application suites around specific themes.
The competition, now in its second year, is a key element of Imagine Cup and the result of a three-year partnership of du with Microsoft. The theme for this year is "Imagine a world where technology enables a sustainable environment".
Hala Badri, EVP Brand and Communications, du, said: "The mobile application competition is an important element of du's corporate social responsibility strategy. As the mobile application development competition enters its last leg, we wish all the teams the very best in their effort to win the competition. We believe this effort will unleash scientific creativity and make a real difference in people's lives."
Charbel Fakhoury, General Manager, Microsoft Gulf, said: "The Imagine Cup is Microsoft's initiative to encourage young people to apply their imagination and creativity to technology innovations that can make a difference and address real-world issues. When coupled with the power of technology the potential of young people is unlimited and the ideas they develop could significantly improve the lives of millions of people around the world. Microsoft's partnership with du is an opportunity for students to unleash their creativity and innovation in developing intelligent mobile application suites that will encourage the creation of a new generation of mobile applications developers."
A total of seven universities submitted their entries for the competition. Among these are two universities from Kuwait while the remaining five universities are from the UAE. All individuals from the winning team will receive gift vouchers worth Dh3,000 each.
