Dubai-based Research and Innovation Technologies (RIT) yesterday said it has entered the world’s fastest-growing telecom market of India.

RIT has launched a suite of mobile applications targeted at the 325 million mobile subscribers in India.

The mobile applications will help detect theft of the handset, track a person precisely on the ground, record specific conversations and take a backup of the entire data of a phone, RIT said in a statement.

The applications will be sold under the umbrella brand Orbit. In the first phase, four applications have been launched:

- Orbit Record: Two-way voice recorder plus dictaphone

- Orbit Tracker: Personal activity and GPS tracker (for on-the-ground employee movements)

- Orbit Protect: Mobile anti-theft software with advanced GPS

- Global Phone Backup: Phone book contacts, tasks and calendar backup and restore software

RIT has signed up with HotSpot Retail for selling these applications across its chains. HotSpot Retail is India’s first multi-brand mobile and technology retailing company and a venture of the BK Modi Group.

Naushad Abdulla, CEO and Managing Director, RIT, said: “We are pleased to venture into India by partnering with the country’s leading technology retail chain. The mobile market in India is pegged at $16.5 billion (Dh60.5bn), of which value-added services constitute 10 per cent. RIT is looking at penetrating this segment through various channels. An outcome of an investment of 50 man-years, Orbit is a suite of technologically advanced mobile applications operational on 2.5G and 3G mobile handsets, available at  very competitive prices. We plan to sell more than 10 million applications in the first fiscal.”

Announcing the tie-up, Sanjeev Mahajan, CEO, HotSpot Retail, said: “Indian consumers have the purchasing power and inclination to own good handsets. The powerful and innovative mobile application from RIT will help today’s consumers’ secure their handsets and use them, smartly. This exclusive tie-up will also help deliver on our TCO [total customer offering] model and garner more margins while selling new mobile handsets.”

RIT also announced that it has appointed Speed Recharge, a nation-wide electronic PIN distributor of BSNL prepaid products, as the national exclusive distributor for all RIT products.

Vikas Jain, Founder, Speed Recharge, said: “We have already identified state-level distributors in 21 states of India. By end of this month all the products will be available at the retail end.”
