In anticipation of its roll-out of telecom services in India, Etisalat DB Telecom and its subsidiary yesterday signed a Letter of Intent with Tech Mahindra to manage the IT applications and infrastructure needs for its proposed roll-out across 15 circles.
The contract will is valued at $400 million (Dh1.46 billion) spread over 10 years. Tech Mahindra is one of the leading IT solutions and service providers to the telecom industry.
Under the terms of the LoI, Etisalat DB and its subsidiary would outsource implementation of its end-to-end IT applications and infrastructure, including system integration and managed services to Tech Mahindra. The prime IT applications stack for Etisalat DB involves components in the BSS (Business Support System) and OSS (Operating Support System) domain.
Tech Mahindra has the required domain and process expertise with a proven track record as part of etisalat's launch of operations in Egypt, etisalat said in a statement. The company's exhaustive pool of IT skills and innovative delivery models will assist Etisalat DB Telecom in the forthcoming roll-out of service in India and delivering the best services and customer experience in the market, it said.
With operations in Asia, Middle East and Africa, etisalat offers fixed-line services over the next generation network and enables mobile users with a range of services and applications such as GPRS, 3G, 3.5G, 3.75G, BlackBerry, iPhone, MobileCam and others. Internet users, too, experience value-additions such as free anti-spam and anti-virus programmes, expanded mailboxes, upgrades of broadband connection speeds and other benefits.
In the UAE, etisalat GSM coverage has reached 100 per cent and 3G coverage reached 99 per cent of populated areas. Offerings include 'triple play' service that includes high-speed internet, TV and fixed lines through fibre optic. In addition to voice and data networks, ?etisalat also offers E-Vision cable TV networks.
It has recently completed the nationwide upgrade of its 3G mobile network to enable mobile broadband download speeds of up to 14.4 megabits per second (Mbps) across the UAE.
