A first-of-its kind regional event, involving key industry figures from the Middle East to discuss internet growth and innovation, will be held in conjunction with Gitex from October 26 to 30.

The event, called Ripe 57, is being hosted by etisalat and organised by the Ripe NCC (Network Co-ordination Centre), an independent organisation that supports the infrastructure of the internet for Europe, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia.

Telecom providers, ISPs, government organisations and educational institutions from the region are expected to decide on strategies to sustain and improve the internet.

Ripe 57 will provide an opportunity for Middle East decision makers to formulate strategies to safeguard economic growth through internet infrastructure development, including the need for IPv6 uptake. Over the past five years, IPv4 uptake for the region has increased by almost 150 per cent.

Abdulla Hashim,VP, Enterprise Solutions, etisalat, said: "There is a huge need for IPv6 deployment across the Middle East in order to ensure healthy and fast-paced development of internet economy."
