Mohamed Al Ghanim, Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), yesterday, reiterated the TRA's commitment to ensuring that mobile phones in the UAE are kept spam-free.
"As for the means to block spam SMSes, du is working on a solution, which will enable subscribers to block SMSes from a certain source. Subscribers will also have the option to unblock the source. As for etisalat, it already provides this service. Subscribers have to simply send a text with the letter 'b' or the word 'block', followed by the number of the SMS source to 1011 ," Al Ghanim said.
Ghanim also called on the public not to open or download files that are likely to be spam.
"We advise subscribers not to give their phone numbers to unknown entities and parties," he said.
