The four-star category of hotels in Dubai is likely to see some much-needed increase in capacity with the addition of 600 rooms in the next two years.
Dubai-based Manchester Properties plans to invest around Dh940 million in three such hotels.
CEO Abdul Aziz al Linjawi said the first hotel to be build at a cost of Dh320m will be built in Al Garhoud.
Work on the property will start in September and is expected to be completed in 18 months. Details on the two other hotels will be announced later this year, he said.
Al Linjawi said hotels are among the most active sectors in the region reaping high returns on investment. Four-star hotels in Dubai represent 12.5 per cent of the number of hotels available. However, in terms of available rooms they represent 18.7 per cent of total rooms, compared to 37.5 per cent in the five-star category.
Al Linjawi said studies made by Manchester have shown that the four-star hotel category usually represents the main stream of the hospitality industry in mature travel destinations.
It attracts both leisure and business travellers who are keen to receive efficient products and services at a reasonable price.
