The promotion allows Coca-Cola to post embarrassing status updates on volunteers' Facebook profiles. (BLOOMBERG)

Soft drink company Coca-Cola has been forced to stop a promotion because it put a pornographic reference on a teenager's Facebook profile in the United Kingdom, according to ABC news.

The promotion for Dr Pepper allows the company to post embarrassing status updates on volunteers' profiles for the chance to win £1,000 (Dh5,570) each week.

But an enraged British mum told a parental networking site that she was horrified to find that her 14-year-old daughter's update referenced a hardcore pornographic film.

She also says she found out that her daughter had tried to look it up on the internet, but says thankfully the filter had locked it out.

According to ABC news, Coca-Cola has apologised and stopped the promotion and its executives have reportedly told the press they had approved it without realising its true meaning.
