Two children found burned to death inside van in Spain

Two boys aged three and five burned to death on Thursday inside a van near a town in eastern Spain after their father left them alone in the vehicle to go to a store, the mayor of the town said.

The man had left the children inside the parked vehicle for about four minutes when for yet to be determined reasons it caught fire and then exploded, Quintanar del Rey mayor Martin Cebrian told radio Cadena Ser.

"Forensic workers have removed the bodies, they were completely charred," he said.

Police are questioning the man. The family was from Ecuador but had moved to the area three years ago, the radio station said.

The town of Quintanar del Rey, which has a population of around 8,000, has delcared three days of official mourning.
