DIFC signs deal for Duke campus

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, DIFC Centre of Excellence yesterday signed an agreement with Duke University to open the latter's Dubai campus.

The partnership was announced at an event held yesterday at DIFC Conference Centre. The event was attended by Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dr Omar bin Sulaiman, Governor of Dubai International Financial Centre, Faten Hani, CEO of DIFC Centre of Excellence and Blair Sheppard, Dean of Duke's Fuqua School of Business.

The global programmes of Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, including the Duke MBA-Cross Continent, the Duke MBA-Global Executive, Advanced Management Programme and Global Leadership Programme will run at the DIFC Centre of Excellence. Duke also intends to offer a one-year Master's Degree in Management Studies in Government at the Mohammed bin Rashid Programme for Leadership Development.

Bin Sulaiman said: "As part of the vision of Sheikh Mohammed, education plays a major role in both Dubai's and the UAE's future growth strategy. Education is also critical to the Middle East's ability to sustain the momentum of its growth. Duke University's programmes will contribute to our effort to offer a wider choice of global educational opportunities."

Hani said: "Duke University will add a lot of value to the pool of global educational resources available at DIFC Centre of Excellence."
