Dubai Airports tops in sustainable transport

The Dubai Airports Company (DAC) has won the first position in the second Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport (DAST) organised by the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) for its excellent provisions of Special Needs Transport Requirements.

The airport bagged the award for its initiative in providing a friendly environment for people with special needs at the DAST awards, which were announced by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council. Also receiving awards in other categories were the Dubai World Trade Centre, the Emirates Motor Sports Federation, Enoc Retail and others.

The RTA said its initiative through the award was also to motivate the public and private sectors to contribute towards minimising traffic congestion and conserving the environment. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, and Hans Rat, Secretary-General of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), also participated in the award ceremony.

DAC won the first position in the category of Special Needs Transportation Requirements for its efforts in providing a friendly environment for the disabled. The second position in this category was won by the Dubai Centre for Special Needs' Seat Safety Scheme followed by the Emirates Driving Institute's driving courses for special needs people.

In the Mobility Management category, the first position went to the Dubai World Trade Centre for its imitative in developing a comprehensive mobility management programme, followed by the Dubai Municipality and Dubai Police General Headquarters for their employee mobility management programmes.

Emirates Motor Sports Federation landed the first position in transport safety, and the second position went to Nasser bin Abdullatif Alserkal Establishment. The third position in this category went to Emirates Transport.
