Rashid Hamdan, a former director-general of Fujairah Municipality, has been jailed for seven years by the Fujairah Criminal Court for forgery and offering a bribe to an employee. He was found not guilty of accepting a bribe.
Al Taher Al Fahl, a former head of the municipality's planning department, was sentenced to six years for forgery and accepting a bribe. Al Fahl, from Sudan, was fined Dh80,000.
Contractor Abdullah Al Ahbash, a UAE national, was sentenced to three years for forgery but was cleared of other charges.
A former head of the municipality's Land Department, Mahmoud Mahfoudh Dsouki from Egypt, was sentenced to three years for forgery but was found not guilty of accepting a bribe.
Housewife Rania Sayed Ibrahim was sentenced to six-and-a-half years, including three years for forgery, three years for bribery mediation and six months for illegally using the status of an employee of Fujairah Municipality.
Afaf Mustafa Kamel, a housewife, Hamdan Salmeen, an employee of the National Bank of Fujairah, and Salim Al Wali, an expatriate living in Fujairah, were found not guilty of all charges. Those convicted have 15 days to appeal against their sentences.
