The Dubai Criminal Court yesterday pronounced judgment in four cases, sentencing the accused to various prison terms.

In the first case, a policeman accused of using two police vehicles for personal purposes, using a fuel filling card belonging to police to fill the two vehicles with petrol and committing traffic violations while using the vehicles, was sentenced to six months in jail.

The policeman, 28-year-old Bangladeshi AA, was also ordered to pay the value of the two vehicles – Dh88,500 – and the value of the petrol bills – Dh10, 400. He was fined Dh10,400 and dismissed from his job, while the judge ruled that the court was not authorised to hear accusations related to his traffic violations.

In another case, 29-year-old Asian ZM was sentenced to six months in prison followed by deportation for stealing cables and wires belonging to a trading company. He had earlier been convicted of sodomy and deported from the UAE, but had managed to re-enter the country illegally.

In the third case, 29-year-old Filipino MO, who worked at the Moscow Hotel, was sentenced to three months in prison for stealing a mobile phone belonging to a hotel customer who forgot it at a restaurant in the hotel.

In the fourth case, AS, 27, a waiter at a Dubai restaurant, received three months in jail with a stay in execution for stealing a Dh44 tip.
