Nakheel seafront case: fresh reports presented in court. (EB FILE)
An expert of the Financial Audit Department, Mohammed Mustafa Hussein, yesterday sent two new files to the Dubai Criminal Court hearing the case of Nakheel seafront. The court adjourned the case to June 15.
The Public Prosecution had accused the executive, commercial and legal directors of harming the company's interest by selling land at a price lower than the market. The three made a profit of Dh44.1 million.
The day before, four defendants accused of receiving bribes and harming the interest of Nakheel, told the court that they wanted to listen to prosecution witnesses, especially Dubai World accounting expert Mohammed Abdullah Al Rawahi, who compiled the audit report. The court adjourned the case to June 10.
Dubai Public Prosecution had referred the defendants to court for bribery and damaging the company's interest. The four are: AA (35, Emirati, marketing manager), RS (39, Indian, warehouse executive director), GR (56, Indian, marketing department staffer) and OM (27, Pakistani, administrator).
AA was charged with asking for a bribe of Dh250,000 from Ghabish trading company in exchange for ordering Mont Blanc pens from the company without putting out a tender. He was also charged with manipulating bills, causing Nakheel a loss of Dh630,000. RS and GR are charged with harming Nakheel interest in complicity with AA. Meanwhile, AA, RS, GR and OM are accused of forging two Nakheel documents, which showed that the marketing department was following up the pens' deal, which was not correct.
Deyaar 2 case
The Dubai Court of Appeal yesterday responded to the lawyer of the first defendant in Deyaar 2 case, SA (former board member, sentenced for three years).
Dr Habib Al Mulla asked for the summoning and discussion of former Deyaar executive director ZS and financial expert Rifaat Marzouk, whose testimony was ignored by the Court of First Instance. The court adjourned the case to June 1.
Mashreq case
The Dubai Commercial Court has adjourned to June 24 the case of Mashreq against Al Gosaibi family. The court is waiting for the accountancy expert's report. Mashreq is demanding Dh1.4 million from Al Gosaibi.
DIB case
The lawyer of Dubai Islamic Bank Essam Al Tamimi has submitted to the court a memo in reaction to the civil case filed by Habib Al Mulla, the lawyer of the fifth defendant OM (Pakistani). Al Mulla had demanded the trial of the DIB board as defendants in the case. Al Tamimi said the defence lawyer's request has no real and legal basis.
