The Dubai Court of Cassation yesterday adjourned to May 30 the verdict in the appeal by the Hamarain family against the Bu Risli family of Kuwait, a case that is related to the ownership of JW Marriott Hotel and Hamarain Centre in Deira, Dubai.

The court earlier refused to suspend a sequestration order on the hotel and the centre. The suspension was requested by a lawyer representing the Hamarain family in a Dh4 billion dispute over the ownership of the properties. The lawyer said the order harmed the reputation of the two businesses.

The Hamarain family is challenging a Court of Appeal ruling in favour of the Bu Risli family. The court ruled that the Bu Rislis owned 80 per cent of the assets while the Hamarains owned the rest.

In another case, the Dubai Criminal Court yesterday adjourned to May 30 the case of former Meraas Capital legal adviser JA (37, American). The defendant is charged with leaking Meraas secrets to a rival company.

In yesterday's session, JA failed to attend, while Meraas' lawyer was present and submitted a document stating that fees of the civil case filed against the defendant had been paid.

In a previous session, JA's lawyer told the court his client had had a traffic accident.

The Public Prosecution said JA leaked to people working for Al Qudra Holding some information on Meraas' financial situation, names of clients and projects.
