29,000 pirated games seized

As part of ongoing efforts to reduce the spread of pirated Xbox 360 games and support legitimate resellers, UAE authorities confiscated more than 29,000 pirated copies of Xbox 360 games in a series of 21 coordinated raids on reseller stores in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah, Microsoft Gulf said yesterday.

In Abu Dhabi, the Ministry of Economy liaised with the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development to conduct the raids simultaneously.

"The ramifications of piracy and the distribution of pirated goods will always negatively impact any economy and hinder growth," said Mohammed Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz, Managing Director, UAE Ministry of Economy. In Sharjah, three people were arrested following raids by government authorities at various stores.
