Discovery Channel's programme on the world's landmark architectural and engineering projects, Build It Bigger, will air an episode on Kuwait's Al Hamra skyscraper in 2010.

The programme's host, Danny Forster, will explore the unique attributes of Al Hamra, which, when completed, will tower over Kuwait's skyline. Standing at 412 metres, it will join the list of the top-10 tallest skyscrapers in the world.

The programme will deal with several attributes of the building, including the fact that it will be the world's first sculpted sky scraper and the tallest stone covered structure on earth. Additionally, it will take an in-depth look at the never-before-attempted construction techniques.

"Skyscrapers are a fascinating building type because on the one hand they are completely private buildings accessible only to those who rent space inside of them, but on the other hand they are public monuments than symbolise the spirit of a city and define the skyline for everyone one to see. And what's amazing is how well the Al Hamra tower functions as both," said Forster. "The building is made from modern steel and glass but also from hand-crafted traditional stone. As a feat of engineering it stands tall, shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the greatest towers ever built. And, as a piece of Middle Eastern architecture, it responds directly to the place in which it's built."

Paul Welling, Discovery Channel's Vice-President, Emerging Markets, Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: "The GCC has demonstrated a dynamic approach to growth and development. The end result is a number of youthful, energetic and distinct cities replete with unique projects.

Discovery has covered these and more – unravelling to audiences across the region the inspiring journeys and stories behind these incredible projects."
