Those of you who missed this cracker of a French thriller at last year's Dubai International Film Festival, can finally see Gallic writer-director Jerome Salle's adaptation of the popular Belgian comicbook series, Largo Winch.

Heroes from Marvel and DC Comics have nothing to fear as Largo (Tomer Sisley) is just an average Joe who's also the sole heir of billionaire mogul Nerio Winch's (Miki Manojlovic) empire, comprising Winch Intl Group – the world's most powerful conglomerate.

As the narrative flashes back and forth, we learn young Largo (Benjamin Siksou) was plucked from a Croatian orphanage by Nerio. Present-day Largo is a vagabond who is forced into the limelight to solve Nerio's murder and protect his fortune from a board of directors, headed by the evil Ann Ferguson (Kristin Scott Thomas).

The plot is gripping, even though the action stays more limited to the boardroom rather than the mean streets of Croatia, Hong Kong and a fictitious island off the coast of Malta.

The narrative switches between French and English but subtitles help.
