Ever so often fashion houses around the world launch perfumes named after celebrities. But why should you wear a perfume named after someone else when you can have a perfume created especially for you and in a bottle that has been designed according to your own specifications.

The House of Cartier has elevated the very concept of wearing perfume by creating custom-made perfumes in custom-made bottles encrusted with jewels.

The starting price for these handcrafted and bejeweled bottles is Dh280,000 and after that the only limit is the client's imagination or his purse strings.

Also if you want to get a bespoke perfume made, even the most basic perfume will cost you Dh140,000 for 100ml and the cost will go up depending on the materials used. Patrick Normand, Managing Director, Cartier Middle East, told Emirates Business: "Cartier, was founded in 1847 essentially as a jewellery house. However, ever since then the house has expanded its horizons to become the world's leading luxury house by setting new standards for the world of art and jewellery, with its unique designs in every sphere, whether it is fine jewellery, watch-making or extravagant luxury items.

"As King Edward VII once so aptly put it "Cartier the jeweller to kings and king of jewellers", has been one of the few jewellery houses to distinguish itself in the art of making bespoke creations for its clientele, and has over the years become famous for this tradition.

"From jewellery to watches to accessories even perfume bottles, Cartier turns clients' dreams and imagination into reality by combining its love of art and the integrity of its unique know-how."

The perfume for you will be tailor made by the jewellery houses' nose Mathilde Laurent and put into a bottle designed according to your specifications.

They could be made out of gold, rock crystal or crystal from Baccarat and they can be decorated with jewel encrusted panthers, snakes, dragons etc.

The bottles can be transparent or engraved, with a monogram or precious initials, everything is possible.

Normand said: "According to the Cartier archives, the first perfume bottle was created in 1908.

"After that specific requests for customised bottles came fast and furious from as far away as Russia and Asia.

"So strong was the demand for these bottles that Cartier decided to establish in 1938 "Parfums Cartier," said Normand.

"So now our clientele can not only have a bespoke perfume bottle they can also have a bespoke perfume to go with that bottle.

"This very exclusive concept, can be ordered at the Cartier flagship boutique, located at 13, Rue de La Paix, two steps from the Place Vendôme in Paris.

"This challenge was entrusted to Mathilde Laurent, the Cartier 'nose', and one of the new great talents of the perfume world."

The whole process of creating custom-made perfumes, which is an extraordinary luxury, considering the amount of work, time and detail that goes into creating a unique scent, involves intense collaboration with the client.

Mathilde begins the process with a first meeting with the client, to learn more about their personality, their likes and dislikes, and their way of life. She then begins work in the laboratory, creating a unique scent which is a reflection of their personality.

The final perfume will have a confidential formula, and will be filed, like all the special orders of the house.

Normand said: "This hand-made perfume can then be locked up in a precious bottle, created at the Cartier workshops, especially made according to our clients' tastes, to capture their own unique 'made-to-measure' fragrance. Rare and exclusive, the bottle and the unique fragrance are together part of a very private collection, a perfume for the initiated, combined to a jeweller's know-how."
